Summary

The town of Villarreal de Álava, now Legutio, was founded in 1333 by Alfonso XI. Soon after, it was handed over to the House of Avendaño, becoming embroiled in y disputes with it. The villages today gathered together in Arratzua-Ubarrundia were part of the Duke´s Brotherhoods, so called because they belonged to the Duke of the Infantado. Located Villarreal and Vitoria, these villages had to face the pressure exerted by both cities in an attempt to gain rights within their territory, and competed among them to take control of the boundaries of several unpopulated areas.
