Summary

In this article we take a look at the life of Admiral Diego de Urrutia y de los Llanos, one of the many Basque generals and admirals in the fleets and navies of the Carrera de Indias. Providing data on his genealogy, kinship, services to the Crown and the heritage left in his will, we contribute a first biographical sketch of a sailor from a family of the Balmaseda oligarchy related to the Indian trade.
