Summary

This article attempts to delve into the Basque-Navarrese migration process to Mexico in a period of great political upheaval centred on the dispute between liberals and conservatives. The article also explains how old resentments converted the Spaniards into the focus of "antigachupín" hate. These circumstances did not affect the tenacity of the Basques who placed their stakes on new markets and became important agents in the Mexican economy.
