Summary

This is a study of the origin and evolution of the coat of arms of the Fraternity or Province of Gipuzkoa, from the 2nd half of the 15th century to the most recent changes introduced 1990. The symbolism and color of the elements that compose it are analyzed, together with aspects to be considered in a possible review in order to adjust the emblem to fit the heraldic tradition of our province, without incurring into any violation of heraldry norms.
