Summary

Among the services provided by the municipalities, the funeral services are particularly noteworthy. Although this is considered a service that has traditionally has been provided as a monopoly, at present, influenced by the process of liberalisation, it is now provided in the open market. The activity is maintained as public service, but its appearance in the market introduces important changes in its management. In this sense, the opening up of this service to the private sector demands the regulation thereof.
