Elemental education in the beginning of the XVIII century was wholly in teachers´ hands although some religious orders were entrusted with teaching, as was the case with the jesuits. The Seminars, the University of Oñati and the Royal Seminar were also in existence then. In the XIX century newuniversities, such as that in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the Biscay Catholic University and Deusto University are established
