Summary

The first person to compare the Basque and the Japanese languages was Saint Francis Xavier although he did not show any sign of appreciating any language or character affinity between the two peoples. However, when a Basque begins to study Japanese he runs into similar words in both languages and with the same meaning. However, upon examining the structure of the two languages, although there are some similarities, there are also some radical differences, for example, Japanese does not have declinations as such
