Summary

By giving the name of "Abbadia" to the neo-gothic castle that Viollet Le Duc had built in the plains of Aragorri, near Hendaye, Antoine Thomson d´Abbadie resuscitates, in his own way, the Abadie d´Arrast Manor in Soule where his father had come from. He makes use of his forebears from Soule, who, as he writes in his autobiographical notes, bore the title of "abbé laï" o "laïc d´Abbadie d´Arrast". They had borne this title up to his grandfather who had emigrated under the Revolution. The purpose of this work is to analyse this title from a linguistic and historical point of view.
