Summary

This article is about the group of women who worked in the Santutxu tobacco factory in Bilbao. It focuses on the characteristics of the cigarette workers in labour, personal, residential and family issues by means of the information found in the 1900 Bilbao Population Register. We have thus been able to approach the importance these women´s wages had for urban working family economies.
