Summary

Issue number 45.2 (2000.2) of the Revista Internacional de los Estudios Vascos (International Magazine of Basque Studies), RIEV, has a Dossier on the 800th anniversary of the conquest of Álava, Guipúzcoa and the Duranguesado by Castille, by the historians Gregorio Monreal Zia, Jon Andoni Fernández de Larrea and Luis Javier Fortún, and archaeologist Mikel Ramos. The articles published in the Tribuna section cover the main fields of Basque culture and society. Gloria Totoricagüena analyses Basque identity through the festivals organised by the diaspora of the Basque community in Boise (Idaho). David Rio Raigadas studies the life and work of Robert Laxalt, the Basque writer from Nevada (USA) who recently passed away. Continuing with his Historia del Arte de Vasconia (History of the Art of Vasconia), Juan Plazaola devotes this chapter to the art of late antiquity. Finally, Pedro Ibarra critically reviews the latest titles appeared in connection with current Basque political issues. This issue also includes the customary Reseña section - where the most outstanding publications on Basque topics are reviewed, and Tesis - the list of doctoral thesis read in the universities of Vasconia with commentaries on those related to Basque culture. There is also the Noticia section, on the most outstanding events in EI-SEV and in the Basque country.
