Summary

Issue no. 46, 1 (2001, 1) of the International Journal of Basque Studies (RIEV), in addition to its customary Reseña (Commentary) section - where the latest and most outstanding publications on Basque topics are commented - the Tesis (Thesis) Section - that lists the doctoral theses defended in the universities of Vasconia and comments those related to Basque culture -, and the Noticia (News) section - on the most outstanding events within the Basque Studies Society and on the Basque country -, covers, by means of the articles published in the Tribuna (Tribune) section, the main fields of Basque culture and society. Iñaki Bazán, in his article, discourses on the Basque medieval civilisation, concentrating on every-day life, the mentality and the culture. Juantxo Madariaga tours the cultural and mental expressions in the Basque Country from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Also, Mari Jose Olaziregi contributes to this issue with an article titled: Canonical and non-canonical narrative in the Basque context. Continuing with his History of the Art of Vasconia, Juan Plazaola devotes this chapter to the Pre-romanesque art. Finally, Carmen Echabarría and Itziar Aguado write about the bibliographical novelties on Basque and Navarran economy before the turn of the century (1999-2001).
