Commentaries to Fr. Gascue´s article on the zortziko. The origin of the 5 x 8 is not due to the baton difficulties that may have influenced drummers and dancers. 5 x 8 is neither artificial nor abrupt. Gascue says that there is no analogy between the castilian round dance and the zortziko except in that the round dance melody is of Basque origin
