Congresses
One of the fundamental and vertebrating actions of Eusko Ikaskuntza-Basque Studies Society throughout its history has been the organisation of Basque Studies Congresses. The Basque Studies Society itself was born as a result of the first of such congresses, held in Oñati in 1918, and it held another six congresses of this kind during its first period (1918-1934). The Basque Studies Society was actually preparing its seventh congress when all work was suspended by the Spanish Civil War. In the post-war period, members of Eusko Ikaskuntza-Basque Studies Society held another two congresses in The Continental Basque Country. In 1983, the Basque Studies Society re-initiates its congress-organising activities with the Ninth Congress, which was held in Bilbao.
