Pedro Valentin Cortazar Mendiola, a sailor born in Ea (Bizkaia) in 1840, emigrated to Argentina in the third quarter of the 19thcentury. He set up residence in the province of Salta, where he married Carmen Arias, from the local traditional class. One of Pedro Valentin´s grandchildren was Julio Cortazar, born in 1914, two years after his grandfather´s death. This is yet another of those unexplored stories, like those of the Basque characters in Julio Cortazar´s literary work.
