Teachers as agents of change

With this conference, organised in collaboration with the Department of Education of the Basque Government, we will share local and international approaches and experiences on the sphere of influence of the teaching profession and the evolution of its role. We will discuss the dimension of the issue and the elements for a shared understanding of the question.

The Basque Education System of the 21st century is immersed in a process of transformation which is necessary in order to respond to current social challenges. In this context, among other issues, the school becomes the axis of educational transformation. The school is presented to us as an empowered institution that will foster shared leadership and promote innovation based on learning and the continuous improvement of the entire educational community.

Conceiving the school as an autonomous unit of action that responds to the local reality and interacts with the context requires a readjustment of the sphere of influence of the teaching and professional work of the schools, as the direct responsibilities and leadership to carry out the process lie in the hands of the professionals of each school.

To respond to this challenge, we must, among other things, reflect on the role of teachers and ask ourselves what form it should take over time and how it should be promoted and supported.

With this conference we will share local and international approaches and experiences on the sphere of influence of teachers' work and the evolution of their role. We will discuss the elements for a shared understanding of the dimension and meaning of the topic.

We will end the session with an exercise to collect the contributions of the participants. This exercise will be carried out using a telematic application.
