In agreement with the Regional Government and the Basque Government, two work programs have been launched for the sociocultural inclusion of immigrants.
The future of Basque society, its culture and its language in the context of globalization and increasing human mobility, with its challenges and opportunities, is at the heart of Elkarbizitzarako Zubiak Eraikitzen.
The general objective of this new Eusko Ikaskuntza work program is to promote sociolinguistic inclusion and intercultural coexistence in the Basque Country. This objective will be achieved through the promotion and understanding of the Basque language, indigenous culture, and identity. Along with this, it aims to promote participatory and collaborative actions that foster social cohesion and intercultural coexistence.
In its initial phases, the Elkarbizitzarako Zubiak Eraikitzen project is being developed in the Autonomous Community of Navarre and the Basque Autonomous Community with support from their respective governments. Two complementary methodologies are being applied: focus groups and interactive workshops involving immigrants with different socioeconomic profiles, ages, and educational levels. Two workshops are held in each selected municipality: one based on the knowledge and use of Basque, and another dedicated to Basque culture, in order to foster deeper and more meaningful inclusion.
This work has already been carried out in Navarre, where the report with the main conclusions is currently being prepared. In the Basque Autonomous Community (BAC), the workshops will be held next July and will cover all three Historical Territories. In both cases, the results will provide valuable qualitative and quantitative information on the attitudes and expectations of immigrants toward the Basque language and Basque culture.
On the other hand, Elkarbizitzarako Zubiak Eraikitzen aims to consolidate a solid network of strategic alliances with key stakeholders in the institutional and social spheres that, in addition to facilitating its implementation, guarantees its long-term sustainability and expansion.
