General Assembly 2025

On Saturday, June 14 in Donostia and online, Eusko Ikaskuntza held its annual General Assembly.

The presentation of the Activity Report, and the balance sheet and income statement for the 2024 financial year, along with the proposed application thereof, was led by the Secretary and Treasurer, Iaki Zabaleta.

In her report, the President described the year 2024 as memorable for three reasons: the great work carried out on knowledge transfer, especially channeled through the 19th Congress; the new program launched with universities to promote research among young people; and, thirdly, the strategic reflection developed internally that has served to design the work agenda for the 2025-2028 period and reinforce the transformative and critical thinking role of Eusko Ikaskuntza. Along with this, the year has included significant milestones such as the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the International Day of the Basque Language in Bayonne and the inauguration of the new headquarters in San Sebastian.

In the second part of the Assembly, the Director, Arantza Cuesta, presented the management plan for 2025 and its budget. This plan draws on two sources: on the one hand, the topics proposed during the 19th Congress regarding social cohesion and social innovation, and on the other, the priorities identified during the organization's internal reflection process. Along these lines, a series of projects to be developed were announced on diversity, coexistence and identity, intergenerational solidarity, development models and social transformation, among others.

Communications Manager Leire Gaceo presented the 2nd Member Participation Activation Plan, which has three main objectives: increasing participation, deepening the sense of belonging to the organization, and making it attractive to new profiles. The plan, whose first initiatives will be announced in July, will be implemented progressively until 2028.

The General Assembly served to update members on the organization's situation in the Basque Country. Following the irregularities detected in its management, Eusko Ikaskuntza has initiated legal action and informed the institutions of its willingness to continue developing and disseminating its work in the seven territories of the Basque Country, with a positive response from all of them. Finally, a crisis committee has been created, composed of representatives from both parties. In its initial meetings, it has begun to lay the groundwork for a new agreement to regulate its future relations. It is always seeking a consensual solution, without renouncing the clarity, transparency, and firmness that the situation demands.

The General Assembly had a humorous climax by Virginia Imaz, who presented some amusing "Klownclusions."
