The General Assembly of Eusko Ikaskuntza ratifies the presidency of Ana Urkiza until 2028

The Governing Council for Álava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Navarra has also been elected.

The Gipuzkoa Chamber of Commerce in San Sebastián hosted the Extraordinary Assembly of Eusko Ikaskuntza on Saturday 30 November to elect the four representatives of the entity in Lava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Navarra for the Presidency and the Governing Council.

With the broad support of her members, Ana Urkiza Ibaibarriaga faces her second term. She is the eighth person to take office in the history of the institution and the first woman since she was elected president in 2020. Likewise, Asier Etxenike Ugarte (lava), Zelai Nikolas Ezkurdia (Bizkaia) and Isabel Elizalde Arretxe (Navarra) have continued their commitment to the Governing Council. On this occasion, Rikardo Bueno Zabalo has been the only new member, representing Gipuzkoa.

Members of Eusko Ikaskuntza have been able to follow the assembly in person and also online, thus learning the details of the new programme.

General bases of the 2024-2028 program

The programme for the new mandate is based on the analysis and comparison of the SWOT document (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the organisation). This document is the result of a deep reflection process lasting six months that has been carried out this year. The contributions of the members of Eusko Ikaskuntza, members of the Governing Council and candidates, staff and scientific directorates have been collected, adding and sharing knowledge, opinions, ideas and proposals.

Thus, the programme for the period 2024-2028 is structured around four strategic axes, supported by three transversal lines of work:

  1. Members . This axis responds to four main objectives: broadening the membership base, increasing the feeling of closeness to the institution, promoting participation and carrying out an analysis of associationism.
  2. Projects and agenda . The objectives of this axis aim to increase the quality, impact and rotation of projects, as well as to develop an agenda connected to the needs of society.
  3. Communication and referentiality . Improving the visibility and referentiality of Eusko Ikaskuntza.
  4. Financing . Diversification of financing sources and stabilization of income.

These strategic axes will be accompanied by transversal lines of work such as the following:
%u2022 Working group . Improve the innovation capacity and coordination of the working group.
%u2022 Alliances . Strengthen existing strategic alliances and create new ones.
%u2022 Territoriality . Eusko Ikaskuntza will continue to develop its projects throughout Euskal Herria, promoting projects that can be scaled to the different territories, promoting cross-border projects and proposing measures that seek balance between the Basque territories.

A Governing Council that brings together all the territories

True to the character of Eusko Ikaskuntza, all the territories of Euskal Herria are represented in the composition of its Governing Council: in lava, Asier Etxenike and Izaskun Iriarte; in Bizkaia, Zelai Nikolas and Mario Zubiaga; in Gipuzkoa, Rikardo Bueno and Jos Manuel Bujanda; in Navarra, Isabel Elizalde and Anika Luj n; in Iparralde, Maitena Urmeneta and Iban Larrandaburu. In addition to the members of the seven territories, the Provincial Councils of lava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, the Government of Navarra and also the Basque Country's Greater Community participate. The Council is also made up of the General Secretary and the representative of the professional team.

Without forgetting the common goals but taking into account local peculiarities, the Council meets every two months to monitor and respond to the needs of the moment.
