On February 1, the Eusko Ikaskuntza-Donibane Lohizune Music Awards will be presented at the Peyuco Duhart cultural center.
In 2019, Eusko Ikaskuntza and the City of Saint-Jean-de-Luz renewed their commitment and signed a new agreement that allows Eusko Ikaskuntza to participate in the organization and staging of scientific and cultural events in collaboration with the City of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
Within the framework of this agreement, the City of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Eusko Ikaskuntza have created a series of new awards to highlight the commitment of both institutions to musical creation.
For this reason, two awards have been created after holding discussions with various agents of the musical community in the region:
- The Honorary Award recognizes the exemplary career of a person or group of people who have contributed to the knowledge and defense of music and musical culture throughout their career.
- The aim of the youth award is to recognise the career of a young person or group so that they can continue working in the music industry.
This year, the jury awarded the music honor prize to the singer and composer Benito Lertxundi for his exceptional career in Basque song, and the youth prize to the multi-instrumentalist Txomin Dhers .
The awards ceremony will take place on 1 February at 11.30 am in the Tanka hall of the Peyuco Duhart cultural centre in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
