Summary

In the late years of the XIX century, several socialist leaders attempted to organize the first Vitorian working-societies. The goal of this attempt was to achieve elements of identification among the workers prior to their eventual conformation as class ; for this it was necessary to question the already existing traditional practices of consensus. In accordance with this, the labour conflict played an important role as an unifying element of experiences and as a conveyer of the necessity and advantages of working-class association. On the other hand, socialists developped different strategies to take advantage of the associative efforts in favor of their own party´s policy. Hawing failed in their enterprise, the vitorian socialists came to be ahead of therir fellow counterparts in other provinces when, for unity´s sake, allied with other leftist groups, concretely with the republicans
