The author analyzes the formation of numbers in Basque, which is believed to originate in five different sources. Currently "one" in Basque is "bat", but in ancient times it was "ika". Ancient toponimics ended in "ika" are numerous south of the Pyrinees, whereas the contrary happens in the French Basque Country.
