Summary

This paper is a linguistic study of Basque onomatopoeia. The first part briefly discusses the place these items occupy in General Linguistics as well as in Basque Linguistics. The second part offers a detailed account of the main phoneticphonological, morphosyntactic and semantic-pragmatic characteristics of Basque onomatopoeia. Finally, the paper touches on the typological consequences this study may cause, as well as its possible future implementation to areas such as teaching and translation.
