In addition to musician and writer, Azkue was also a grammarian, lexicographer, folkore researcher, novelist and playswright. In this latter capacity, he published the following works: Vizcaytik Bizkaira (1895), Eguzkia nora (1896) ; Colonia Inglesa (1896), Sasi-eskola (1898), Pasa de Chimbos (1898), Ortzuri ; (1910), Urlo (1912) and Aitaren Bildur (1917).
