Summary

The author discusses the duration of the first weekly publication in Basque, ; titled "Californiako Eskual Herria". It was founded in Los Angeles in 1893 by ; Jean Pierre Goytino, from Ainhoa. The last issue we have dates from 25th February ; 1898. There is, however, no reason to lead us to conclude it was the last. It was ; published every Saturday, completely in Basque, including advertising. According to its founder, it reached a sales figure of around 2.000 magazines, not only in California but also in most of the countries of Northand South America and within the Basque Country itself. It provided news from America and Europe and publishes ; much poetry, both by well-known bertsolaris from those times, and by Basques ; from America.
