Summary

The study of the plankton fauna in the waters of the Bilbao Abra showed that the zooplankton populations were similar at the three stations. Diferences in size and aspect between sampling sites were foundes, being smaller at the zona of the thermic power plant and "durty" at the mouth of the Nervión. Zooplankton composition, interespecific abundance and seasonal distribution has been described as well as some of the species more caracteristic of the estuary. Copepodes formed the dominating group throughout the year and comprised 82% of the mean total abundance. The two most common species were Acartia clausi and Paracalanus parvus
