Summary

Cristobal de Alfaro, Navarran silversmith from Valtierra, was one of the most outstanding figures in Spanish jewellery during the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century. He was approved in Madrid in 1678 and held several posts of responsibility in the silversmiths. Congregation of San Eloy. He was the "Platero de Oro" (gold silversmith) in the Royal Household and Aide to the Royal Steward during the reigns of Charles II and Phillip V. He made a great amount of jewels for the King and the main noblemen and personnel in the Court. When he died, he bequeathed an important amount of jewels, silver objects, paintings, furniture and other objects for his children, in addition to several houses. He always maintained contact with his homeland by sending pieces of silverware and liturgical objects and in his testament he also bequeathed a certain amount of money for his Navarran relatives.
