Summary

The present study approaches the subject of lower noble ("hidalgo") lineage of Bizkaia in the lower Middle Ages from the perspective of "mentality". Starting with the work by Lope García de Salazar, the study delves into their self-perception and into the conformation of their own cultural model. The worshipping of ancestors, genealogical invention and, in fact, a particular re - reading of History, are expressed as elements of a strategy of survival in the twilight of the Middle Ages.
