Summary

Sancho the Elder´s currency is the first currency of a peninsular Christian king, and it is the only one that is known from him and it served as model for his descendants. It carried the incription "Imperator" and "Naiara". According to the King, Naiara it refers to Nájera, and not to "Navarra" as Heiss said. Menéndez Pidal says that the coins would have been minted between 1033 and 1035, but Iruña believes that could have been before 1030 and before conquering León
