Summary

Humboldt visited the Basque Country in 1801. He was already acquainted with the Basque cultural and political question and he wrote about the "Nation biscayenne" as a state within the Hispanic Monarchy. He distinguished between the cultural nation and the political nation. He used this visit to improve his methodological analysis about the cultural and political communities
