Summary

Ochandiano, together with Orduña, Valmaseda and Bermeo is one of the first villages founded in the Señorío de Vizcaya. The organ activity that developed for more than four centuries in the parish Church of St. Marina, represents an evident reality of the musical enviroment existent in the village. Fray José Echevarria, whose innovations universally made history in the organ-building, and the establishiment of a workshop in the village by Santiago Herdoiza, are a clear example of it. Therefore, it does not have to surprise us that several organists from Ochandiano delighted with the music the churchs of other latitudes. Especially the Aróstegui family represent an unique case of Ochandiano?s organ and music history.
