Summary

The chief altarpiece of the church of Asteasu is a construction initiated in the last year of the Rococo. Its architecture reproduces a schem quite repeated in the province of Guipuzcoa. Juan Elías de Inchaurrandiaga is, as a consequence, a name to bear in mind. Even if the titular image made by Anchieta is keeped, the rest of the sculptures are made by different authors in the beginning of the Neoclassic. That allows the comparison between Santiago Marsili, Antonio Miguel de Jáuregui, Juan Bautista de Mendizábal II and Alejo de Miranda. This last one was very known as architec, even if this facet of sculptor is shown here for the first time. All of them take different ways to resolve the problems that the arrival of a new esthetic produces
