Summary

Currently, England as a nation is going through a crisis. The current configuration of the national identities which were empires and the relationship between such identities, can not be studied without bearing in mind its imperialistic past. The causes of the crisis are: for the English Empire and nation are inseparable, the presence of inhabitants from the former colonies (above all from Asia and the West Indies) in England, Welsh and Scottish nationalisms together with the problems in Northern Ireland and the European Union could accelerate the process of separation in Great Britain
