Summary

The relationship between cultural, legal and constitutional pluralism in Europe is analysed from a Law and Society perspective. Multiculturalism in Europe, linked to sociologically complex societies, ethnic diversity and nationalisms, is increasingly the result of immigration and religious diversity. Diversity of lifestyles, beliefs, mores, ... and of social norms considered ´legal´. State law and official reaction to diversity are essential in ´legal pluralism´ but transnational and global legal phenomena originate new pluralisms.
