Summary

There are physical, environmental, social and economic constraints to mobility and we see that the current transport system, based on road transport and fuels is unsustainable, bearing in mind the long life-cycle of the transport structures and the consequent lack of planning and even evaluation. The spontaneous character of the road-based system has brought us to a lack of foresight in the middle and long-term demand for transport, and even a lack of knowledge and consensus between the actors implied. Moreover, we do not know the real costs attributable to transport, but we suspect they are unsustainable.
