Summary

The Basque language, although deeply rooted in the Basque people, was only used in oral communication possibly and among other reasons due to the greater circulation of books in Castilian, even though books were also written in Basque. It was possibly in this era when Basque was first studied as language. The decadence of the Basque language in certain areas such as the south of Alava and Navarre was due, among other reasons, to the wars, the laws, and the arrival of Castilian Spanish-speaking priests
