Summary

In this article a brief interpretation is made on the word order in Basque, bothfrom a historical and a prehistoric perspective. The basic order defended in the synchronic level is SOV, even though this order is not at all rigid. In a diachronic level, it isproposed that common Basque is SOV, and an explanation is suggested for the SVO> SOV transformation that should be placed in the pre-common phase.>
