Summary

From the beginning of the century it could be observed that there already existed proposals demanding a school and teachers rooted in their environment and that addressed Basque culture and its problems, its history, etc. In order to address such a wide issue, the author attempts to explain the problems and the expectations created, as well as their possible solutions. With this purpose in mind, he divides the issue in five sections, in which he makes an approximation to history, emphasizing the general abandonment of Basque studies quoting important exceptions. He formulates the problem in current society, the content, purpose and means for Basque studies in the syllabus, the current situation of schools and, finally, future perspectives
