Summary

The Basque hamlet consists of four parts: the house, the homestead, the cattle and the mountainous countryside. The married couple and their elder son constitute the labour, together with the smaller children until they begin to earn a wage outside the property even though they continue living and helping out within it. Farming in the hamlet is, in principle, rotational and biennial. The means which are to be used to consolidate and encourage agricultural production are of a social, economic, fiscal, legislative and agricultural nature
