Summary

The transfer of jurisdiction in cultural matters took place in 1981 and it is only since 1990 that there is a law regulating Cultural Heritage. This Law established that the Basque Government had to play a determining role in the management of the Archaeological Heritage. Government performance is to be perceived as a progressive implementation of the jurisdictions that it was attributed with. In its management of such matters, the Basque Government has placed special emphasis in the legal protection of archaeological deposits and in the regulation of archaeological material management.
