Summary

We will carry out a comparison between the patterns of the repression by francoist army and administration in two towns of the Basque province of Gipuzkoa during mid-1936: Beasain and Arrasate-Mondragon. The both towns were among the first towns in the process of industrialization and they grounded an well organised workers’ movement. In both towns an instantaneous and massive massacre was carried out. This article will examine the similarities and differences between both cases and will widen the focus to contribute to the understanding of the repressive measures in Gipuzkoa.
