Summary

On a small scale, in Plentzia and the surrounding area the civil conflict that would set off the military coup of 1936 took hold. During both the Republican (1936-1937) and Nationalist (1937-1939) periods, public order in the coastal city became disrupted and the effects of the repression practised by both sides was felt, albeit at a lower intensity than in other cities in Biscay.
