Summary

In the Middle Ages, public administrations in Europe started to iden-tify themselves by means of the use of Coats of Arms. After achieving their independence, the majority of the states in the world also equipped themselves with symbols inspired in heraldry. In their very design, apart from national motifs, there were also the various ideological tendencies that were the hallmark of each period.
