Summary

In Spain, the cultural equivalence with Europe has been always a challenge. Even when sending people to carry out studies abroad, they have always been below countries considered poorer, such as China and Turkey. The JAE (Junta para la Ampliación de Estudios: Board for the Amplification of Studies) scholarships, whose purpose it was to send students to Europe to complete their studies, but such studies were not homologated in Spain unless in exceptional cases. Some of the Basque intellectuals that received such scholarships were Telesforo de Aranzadi, Xabier Zubiri, Angel Apraiz Buesa, etc., all of which have exerted a great influence on Basque society
