Summary

Mitxelena was capable of uniting science and Basquology more than anybody else. For him, the Basque language was the main component of our "ancient bond". In spite of everything, he never came to believe in linguistic determinism according to the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. Mitxelena was fascinated by the long and astonshing survival of the Basque language and could not find an entirely satisfactory explication for this fact. In any case, it was him who opened the ways to finding this explanation
