Summary

Villeviell was bishop of Bayonne. In 1790 the religious orders were suppressed, in spite of which, the bishop decides to make a visit to his diocese. After that, the bishops were substituted by civilians and Villeviell reacts writing a pastoral letter. In reaction to the obligation of swearing the "the Clergyman´s Civil Constitution", Villeviell moved to Urdach in March 1791. He then returns to France to go in exile to Pamplona and thereafter to retire to the monastery of Oliva
