Summary

Antoine d´Abbadie contributed to a greater knowledge of Ethiopia by means of the exploration and study of its southern regions and the populations that inhabit them, particularly the Oromo. He provided important philological and historical material by making his abundant collection of manuscripts available to scholars. He demonstrated the importance of the regional factor in Ethiopian history, which had a similar importance for the ancient Christian kingdom of the high plains as it did for greater Ethiopia, which at the end of the XIX century became the Empire of Ménélik.
