Summary

Azkue´s first lyric works are the operettas, written in a spirit of nationalist ; propaganda. The example of C. Bordes, and the teachings of the Schola Cantorum later guided him towards the withdrawal and use, in his compositions, of songs and folk dances. In 1911 Azkue participates in the Basque opera season of the Choral Society of Bilbao with Ortzuri, the scenic presentation and lyrics of which are very appreciated. On the other hand, the libretto and the music of the lyric comedy Urlo suffers a complete lack of success.
