Summary

The initial vowel can disappear in Basque place-names. This does not tend to occur when they are compound vowels (ei, eu, etc.). The "a" does not usually disappear, while the "e" and the "y" disappear quite often. Examples of place-names where the initial vowel has disappeared are presented
