Summary

The aim of this article is to review the present state of our knowledge about the Law of the Modification of Fueros ("Ley Paccionada") of 16 August 1841, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of ist promulgation. The Navarrese, and others involved in Navarrese affairs, have often been divided over the interpretation and evaluation of this law, which was to have far -reaching significance for Navarra, and it is from these issues that one of the main controversies about contemporary Navarrese history stems. We begin with a brief survey of the available bibliography, emphasizing the most controversial aspects which are still disputed today. The different prevailing interpretations are then contrasted with aspects such as the process of approval of the law, or the "pactista" doctrines of the time. It has thus been possible to draw conclusions, some new, by comparing the facts as we now know them and the interpretations which have been offered
