The author rejects the hypothesis given by Schulten, at least as refers to the Basque Country, that there are in the coast of Spain various chapels devoted to Saint Marina in which there had previously been Marine Venus shrines, in honour of the patron of Roman and Greek sailors. For Echegaray, the chapel devoted to Santa Marina owes its name to the passage of pilgrims to Santiago
